CFM 820 joins Wreckhouse and Nickel for Super 8

The Nickel teams with the Wreckhouse International Jazz & Blues Festival for the 6th consecutive Super 8mm workshop. We are also happy to announce that the Canadian Federation of Musicians Local 820 will be joining us this year in creating three-minute 8mm films that unite music and visual imagery.

The Super 8mm workshop will be facilitated by Roger Maunder and is offered to filmmakers who have screened films at the Nickel in the past 11 years. Filmmakers are selected in a random draw. They are then paired with a composer. Three filmmakers are provided with a camera and film stock and have one day to shoot their films, editing in-camera. After the film is developed and returned, the composer has one day to work out a score. This score is played and recorded as the film is screened at the Wreckhouse Festival in July, after which it is edited to the film. The resulting film is played before an audience at the Nickel Film Festival the following year.

The deadline for the Super 8mm workshop is June 16 at 4pm. Filmmakers must email nickelfestival@gmail.com to be included in the random draw.
