Over a few short months in 1990, more than 3,000 Bulgarian political refugees sought asylum after landing in Gander, Newfoundland. Taking advantage of a refueling stop en route to Cuba, the travellers fled uncertain futures under the failing communist regime. Stepping out into the stark, snowy unknown, they began to reconstruct their lives in Canada. While chronicling multiple individuals’ experiences, A New Life offers a universal reflection on exile and immigration. Director & Writer: Stefan Ivanov • Producer: Les Ivanov Productions • Runtime: 1:15 Mins • Canada
