With the support of the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs Program the Nickel Independent Film Festival is hiring two summer positions, Marketing and Outreach Assistant & Assistant Special Projects Coordinator (applicants must be aged 15 to 30 to apply).

About the Nickel
Founded in 2001, the Nickel Independent Film Festival is a celebration of local and international independent film. Our 19th annual week-long film festival will be held June 17-22, 2019 in St. John’s. In addition to showcasing local and international independent films, our festival offers a highly anticipated week of professional development workshops, networking events and public panel discussions. We also host additional film screenings, special events, film challenges, and educational programs for youth throughout the year and across the province. The festival is a non-profit, charitable organization.

Marketing and Outreach Assistant

(8 weeks/30 hrs week/$11.40 hr)
This job is through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs Program.

With assistance from the team and the support and guidance of the Executive Director, the Marketing and Outreach Assistant will help to deliver and maintain the voice and brand of the Nickel Independent Film Festival. They will be responsible for producing content that delivers our message to both the public and media, with a focus on our festival in June. This job offers hands on experience with a small team for people looking to hone their communications skills in a creative, fast-paced environment. Applicants with excellent writing skills can help develop content that reflects and excites readers and filmgoers about the festival’s programming. The ideal candidate is creative, friendly, charismatic, a team player and self-motivated. Previous journalism and/or graphic design experience is a strong asset.

Duties of the Marketing and Outreach Assistant:
-Build and manage social media marketing campaigns
– Graphic design
– Coordinate with the media to organize interviews and other festival coverage
– Write press releases and create press kits
– Build marketing pitch packages
– Assist with creating content for the festival’s social media channels and mailing lists
– Update and create content for our website
– Assist with coordinating the festival press conference
– Assisting in the development of our festival program and marketing materials
– Tracking and reporting marketing campaign data

Requirements
In addition, the candidate should demonstrate the following skills:
– Ability to work flexible work hours, including long hours during Festival week
– Excellent professional writing and verbal communication
– Highly organized individual
– Proofreading and copy editing
– Developing timelines and meeting deadlines
– Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office and Google Docs
– Experience with Squarespace and asset
– Budget management
– Social media management and digital media marketing
– Experience and understanding of analytics
– Basic graphic design skills a strong asset
– Open to professional development training
– Understanding the local film and arts community an asset

Assistant Special Projects Coordinator

(8 weeks/30 hrs week/11.40 hr)

The Assistant Special Project Coordinator supports the management, development and coordination of projects at the Nickel Independent Film Festival. The participant will, with the assistance of the Special Project Coordinator and Executive Director help oversee the coordination and administration of Nickel programs, specifically the Telus New Voices project, an ongoing program to foster diversity in local filmmaking by supporting the production of short films by youth, including new Canadians, first generation Canadians, and LGBTQ youth. Other projects include First Take, an initiative to encourage and connect school-aged youth with local film and filmmaking.

Duties of the Assistant Special Projects Coordinator:
-Assist the Special Projects Coordinator with planning, organizing, and leading projects and program activities.
-Help to identify and deliver the logistic and strategic needs required for the successful delivery of programs.
-Conduct background research and provide administrative support where required.
-Assist in evaluating and monitoring program activities.
-Coordinate the services of outside organizations and individuals where necessary
-Attend regular meetings with other team members to ensure projects stay on track.
