Q&A: Dear Dad

Q&A: Dear Dad
With Burton Rocks

How did this film come together?
The film “Dear Dad” came together when my parents' home was destroyed by a flood. They lost most of their remaining childhood objects, and my Dad, Dr. Lawrence Rocks, quipped, “Objects can be destroyed but memories live on forever." My dad taught me that. The flood can’t take that away from me.

Did anything unexpected happen as you were making this film?
Yes. We never dreamed we’d be able to have a catch at Alley Pond Park captured on film in the same spot where my dad played catch with my grandpa!

What's the best filmmaking advice you've ever received?
My cousin, Hollywood producer David Dortort, told me years back when I was writing to “be authentic,” and since my writing style was “breezy” as he termed it, I should be authentic to that style whether I write or direct a film. I wish he’d have lived to see my directorial debut.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you!
