Q&A: Desync

Q&A: Desync
With Minerva Navasca

How did this film come together?
We made Desync as our thesis film at Sheridan College. Chen Sing (the co-writer and editor) and Minerva (the co-writer and director) revised an old draft of Chen Sing's exploring familial disconnect and miscommunication, through long conversations examining how this manifested in both their families. The film was made with a student crew, a timeline of about 8 months, and a budget of around 3k. The team worked hard to secure sponsorships for catering, locations, and equipment in order to work with the extremely limited budget.

Did anything unexpected happen as you were making this film?
There was a wierd hyper-meta moment where our actor, who plays a director, said the line "Cut- moving on." Everything was super silent till the line was echoed by the actual film director, which felt a weird and deja-vu-y. We have a clip of it if you'd like!

What's the best filmmaking advice you've ever received?
