Sign up for the 2025 48-Hour Horror Film Challenge

The Nickel 48-Hour Horror Film Challenge is our annual challenge to anyone to write, shoot and edit a short film. It's not a contest, it's free to participate, and registration is open until the challenge closes. Films can be any length under 5 minutes, and can fall under any of the sub-genres of horror. Find out more at the registration link. 2025 will be the 14th edition of the challenge.

A public screening of the submitted films will take place on October 11 at the LSPU Hall! And stay tuned for information on free workshops coming up in St. John's on September 27.

Thank you to the Nickel's major funders: ArtsNL, The Canada Council for the Arts, the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador, the Department of Canadian Heritage, Picture NL, TELEFILM Canada, and the City of St. John's.
