Pimple — a Q&A with Fernando Alle

Pimple — a Q&A with Fernando Alle

A young boy's pimple bursts, leading to a bloody disaster. This Portuguese body-horror comedy packs a lot of mess into a very short runtime.

Pimple screens in Things Get Weird on Friday, June 26 at 10:00pm at LSPU Hall.

How did your film come together?

I have been trying to get a second feature made for close to six years now, and I need to make films as I need to breathe, so I decided I had to film something, so I maxed out my credit cards and made this wild short film.

Did anything unexpected happen as you were making this film?

When shooting a film, the unexpected is to be expected. There will be lots of problems, and the true burst of creativity is in coming up with creative solutions to the problems that arise on set. The gun gag was not in the script. There was going to be an elaborate gory death but we were running out of time. So I added the gun scene on the day of shooting and the film became all the better for it.

What’s the best filmmaking advice you’ve ever received?

To always treat the cast and crew well. Filmmaking is a collective effort, and everyone's work is important and deserving of respect.
