Sawdust — a Q&A with Ashley Neary

Sawdust — a Q&A with Ashley Neary

After a wrong turn strands them in an empty industrial lot, two friends turn on each other before admitting what has been building between them. A locally-made coming-of-age drama that finds its emotional core in the pressure of miscommunication, fear, and unspoken care.

Sawdust screens in Love, Almost on Thursday, June 25 at 7:00pm at LSPU Hall.

How did your film come together?

This film was my final capstone project for the Television and Film Creation Program at CNA. It was inspired by a highway mishap I experienced while driving my friend Charley home from a movie.

Did anything unexpected happen as you were making this film?

At the last minute, one of my instructors, Allison Short, managed to hook me up with a warehouse space to use as a studio. Otherwise we would have been shooting in my uncle's one car garage. I don't want to imagine how that would've gone!

What’s the best filmmaking advice you’ve ever received?

Be prepared to kill your babies.
